When people are forced to flee war or lose their homes during a natural disaster, they often have to start their lives anew. However, this frequently happens in unsuitable conditions—under tents, in makeshift shelters, or portable cabins. These temporary shelters are not equipped to protect them from the cold. Thanks to the Real Gift of Warmth of home, we provide people with clothing and footwear, warm blankets, firewood or briquettes, and electric heaters.
Help for Seniors and Widows in Lebanon
Tripoli is Lebanon’s second-largest city and one of the poorest. Over half of the population lives below the poverty line, and the elderly, especially widows, face the hardest hardships. The country lacks a pension system or support for seniors, and many live in poor conditions. They seek shelter in makeshift dwellings or old, damaged buildings that offer little protection from cold and heavy rains. We assisted 60 households with insulation, repairs to windows and doors, as well as providing blankets and quilts.

People Lost Their Homes in the Earthquake in Albania
Many people were left homeless after a powerful earthquake struck Albania in November 2019. Hundreds of buildings either collapsed or were structurally damaged, making it unsafe for residents to remain inside. Many families had to find shelter in makeshift huts or tents. Ergyst Shullazi from the Bubq area was one such family. He lived with his father and his severely disabled brother, Julijan, who was traumatized by the earthquake. They lost their home and found refuge in a portable cabin.
"During the first earthquake in January 2019, Julijan was home alone and had a panic attack. When the earthquake struck again in November, my father and I did everything we could to get my brother out of the house as quickly as possible."
We provided 26 families who lost their homes with warm clothing, winter boots, firewood, and heaters.
We Are Once Again Helping to Provide Heat in Ukraine
Attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure have destroyed half of the country’s electricity generation capacity. Many families have had to adapt to power outages lasting from 4 to 18 hours a day. With temperatures below freezing, many households faced the risk of not surviving until spring. That’s why, during the winter of 2022 and 2023, we distributed firewood and briquettes to households in the Zakarpattia region. We managed to deliver up to 1,152 tons of wood to 300 families in the mountainous districts of Tyachiv and Rakhiv. We continue to provide heating, focusing especially on vulnerable families with small or disabled children and lonely elderly people.
