The greenhouse construction project is creating new opportunities for women from marginalized communities who, until recently, struggled with unpredictable weather, periods of drought, and a lack of food for their children and families. For many of them, the chance to earn a stable income was once out of reach.
Thanks to the greenhouses, they can now grow vegetables year-round, support around 300 people, and generate income through their own work. They are now able to pay their children’s school fees, save for the future, and gain greater independence.
“The progress they’ve made is truly inspiring. They grow tomatoes, kale, cassava, spinach, and other vegetables. Not only are they producing in large quantities, but they are also selling their harvest and generating real income. One of the groups even earned more than 100,000 KES in just the past two months!” says Alvin, the local program manager.
