Football Tournament in Petrovany: When It's About Much More Than Just Winning

Sports are a fantastic tool for building friendships and bringing communities together. Through sports, children learn not only to cooperate and respect others, but also to compete in a healthy way and believe in their own abilities.

This year, we once again organized our traditional football tournament in Petrovany, where children from five community centers, our colleagues, volunteers, and members of the local community gathered on the green field. The matches were played with full intensity, but with a strong emphasis on fair play – sports passion went hand in hand with a deep respect for opponents and referees.

This was already the sixth edition of this popular event. The children have grown to love the tournament so much that they prepare for it conscientiously throughout the entire year. They train hard so they can showcase everything they've learned on the big day, and above all, to enjoy a shared day full of joy, movement, and fun.

Values That Extend Beyond the Boundaries of the Field

Children naturally carry the experiences and lessons from the playing field into their everyday lives. They learn how important it is to be a strong part of a team, pull together, celebrate a well-deserved victory, and gracefully accept a defeat. Values like fair play and respect for their surroundings help them grow not just as athletes, but as individuals.

A huge thank you goes to the volunteers from Západoslovenské elektrárne, who didn’t hesitate to roll up their sleeves. They helped with delicious refreshments, event organization, and some even took to the field with a whistle in hand to referee the thrilling matches. We also want to thank the village of Petrovany for its long-term support, providing wonderful facilities, and helping organize the event so that this tournament can take place year after year.
