Thanks to the Real Gift First Steps Out, we are guiding children from marginalized communities toward a better future. We strive to show them the world beyond their communities, organize field trips, and take them to places that can inspire them.
This time, children from the Community Center Na predmestí visited the UNIZA Center for Science Popularization in Žilina. Right at the start, they were asked if they knew any scientists. Without hesitation, they began naming them: Newton, Pascal, Einstein, Hawking... That’s when we knew we had taken them to the right place. The center motivates young people to take an interest in the natural and technical sciences. All exhibits are interactive and hands-on, so you won’t hear phrases like “don’t touch, don’t press, don’t turn on” there. The children eagerly explored everything—touching, turning things on, pressing buttons—and enjoyed a wonderful day that will stay with them for a long time.
At People in Peril, we strive to fully integrate all children into society and show them the opportunities available to them—for example, those offered by the University of Žilina. We want to motivate them to study and show them that nothing is impossible. We believe we succeeded. Despite their initial reluctance to “go to school during the holidays,” they were thrilled by what they saw and experienced and are eager to return.
